KVH3 go to Ireland – June 2011
This was KVH3’s first International Hash and we even made it onto the telly.
We went to Dublin on Friday 24 June 2011 and acclimatised in the Guinness Storehouse in the morning, several pubs in the late afternoon and over fine meals and a few pints in the evening.
Dublin was humming. Temple Bar in particular was raucous with music and dancing and we were in Gogarty’s hostel right in the centre of it.
On Saturday we headed out to Naas in County Kildare and started with a pint in Tommy Fletcher’s bar and then on to the Hash. There were two trails, one for walkers along the canal and another around the town, through built-up areas and out into the countryside. We even had the trail over the railway footbridge in Sallins which certainly confused a few runners! Then we had an “On Inn” with a difference – a swim across the canal. Colin was first in followed by Jeremy, Des and Brian. The hare was also in or he would have been pushed! You can see us on Kildare YV news. We were hosted by the inaugural Naas Hashers who provided an amazing BBQ of legs of lamb and accompaniments, great conversation, lots of beer and a really fun afternoon. We cannot thank our wonderful hosts enough: Fintan, Fran, Peter, Maurice, Tommy, Christy, Joan and Ken. We even made it onto the telly.
We got back to Dublin for a Literary walkabout that evening and then a few more pints. We do like our drink!
Our final Hash was on Sunday in the Dublin mountains with fantastic views across Dublin Bay and into the Wicklow mountains. The weather was glorious. Then back to Dublin on the Luas and a final pint before heading for the airport. It was a cracking weekend and we look forward to hosting our Naas friends next time in Wiltshire!
