Hash 660 – Old George @ South Cerney

I should think that Jeremy was very relieved when he woke up Sunday morning to see a bright sunny day, as I’m sure he would remind people that the last time he laid a trail at The Old George it was in teeming rain, although according to the Hash magazine the runners didn’t get as wet as the walkers on that occasion.

Edwards College – Alms Houses

We, fortunately, were lucky to have a chilly but sunny start when we assembled at the curiously named Bow Wow next to the swiftly running River Churn in the delightfully picturesque Cotswold village of South Cerney.

Jeremy in his briefing indicated there were the options of three trails, a long, a short and a very short. He gave a reminder to the runners that once they had completed the short section they would continue to the long route and, providing they didn’t repeat the long section, (as some of us have been known to do) would run the short route a second time to complete the five miles. This caused a certain amount of confusion, and a spate of questions from the walkers, but Jeremy refused to repeat the instructions as in the past no one listened or indeed remembered the instructions, anyway.

For the runners this was a delightful trail, virtually flat, crossing fields and streams, over and under bridges of the dismantled Swindon to Cirencester railway line, and alongside the lake at the Cotswold Water Park. The trail was well laid, with plenty of circles and false trails – which I seemed to have the knack of choosing each time.

Back at the George, after passing the bright red fire engine used as a BBQ server, we managed to find a sunny sheltered garden to enjoy a pint or two. Sitting in the sunshine, enjoying each other’s company, with a lovely relaxed atmosphere, nobody was in a hurry to leave.

Kevin in his usual manner gave us an opportunity to thank Jeremy for a splendid trail in such a scenic location – and for arranging the lovely sunshine.

A pair of shorts were discovered, from where I don’t know, but it did remind Jeremy that he was awarded a pair of shorts, weeks ago from a previous Hash, but put them in the boot of his car where they were conveniently forgotten. Hashers unanimously decided that Jeremy now has to wear them on a Hash before passing them on.

Once again, thanks Jeremy for a super Hash.
