Everything about our Boxing Day hash this year felt right. The weather was perfect for a winter hash – cold and clear with bright sunshine and a gentle breeze, We followed a very well laid trail based on a local pub that was warm and welcoming and 18 of us ( 4 runners and 14 walkers) were there to enjoy it. Viv gave a brief briefing – a long of about 5 miles, a short of about 3 and an extra short of about 2 – no hazards apart from the mud – something for everyone to enjoy – and we set off, turning left out of the pub, up the hill past Maurice’s house and out in to the countryside above the village.
We then followed a familiar route over the main road down through the woods and round in a loop to the village and the pub. The trail was clearly marked and we all got back to the pub pretty close together in just over the hour; a classic hash.
The après was relaxed and enjoyable as always. We had a corner of the pub to ourselves where we sat round a big table and chatted and laughed and a had a few beers and many people had their lunch.
Jeremy was our acting GOM (as Kevin and Julie are away) and he made a fine speech thanking the hares and wishing us all a Happy New Year. A hugely enjoyable traditional hash.
And just in case you’ve forgotten …..
