Hash 666 – Bear Hotel @ Hungerford

What a turn out for KVH3’s first hash of 2024. Normally the first hash of the year is a quiet affair. Jeremy was up before the crack of dawn to lay two separate trails, one long and one short – as is customary. Everyone reminded everyone to register their vehicles at the Bear Hotel Reception as we didn’t need a repeat of our last visit here when a number of us had a nasty shock when we received a PCN in the post some days later.

With everyone registered, we were keen to set off. The weather was dry but chilly and one or two of us were starting to feel the cold in our extremities.

We gathered in the car park for Jeremy’s briefing in which he took the opportunity to explain the hash rules of engagement ensuring that we all received the correct information because on our last visit to Hungerford not many hashers listened to Jeremy’s briefing and lost their way. Instructions given, we were On! On!

Our way was along the Salisbury Road, up Hungerford’s High Street, with those hashers choosing to take the short trail following the canal and those taking the long continuing up the High Street. The short took the hashers east to Hungerford Common and the long south to Standen Manor Farm then returning via Senham Green and hence back to Hungerford through the Common.

Jeremy’s objective to explain the hash rules at the beginning of today’s hash worked as nearly everyone returned to the Bear Hotel in good time to enjoy the first après of the year. All complemented Jeremy on his trails, especially those who completed the short who all mentioned the generous amount of flour that was laid! GOM thanked Jeremy for the two well laid trails which were mainly on the flat and not too muddy – a great first hash for 2024!

PS. A rumour was circulating that Des is going to do a hash with Kathy with many asking which Kathy? Well there is only one Kathy in our group so I decided to end the gossip and speak to her. She did confirm that she will be assisting Des with laying a hash in the near future. I won’t give any spoilers as to the venue of their hash – more to come later.
