Hash 686 – Barrington Arms @ Shrivenham

As I am about to write this mag Trent Alexander Arnold has scored a goal from a wonderful free kick from outside the lefthand side of the Finnish goal area. I mention this because it reminded me of Keith’s execution of laying three good hash trails today around the village of Shrivenham.

We gathered outside the front of The Barrington Arms prior to the 11 o’clock start before moving to the rear of the pub for a group photo. Mike showed some concern that there were going to be no runners today and Keith was concerned that his efforts in laying a long trail would not be appreciated until Jeremy turned up in his running gear so we were going to have at least one runner today and low and behold just like buses three more runners arrived in the form of Julie, Viv and John.

Before Keith’s briefing as GOM I asked for a volunteer to write the mag and my hand was the only one to be held up so that is why I am writing the Mag. Keith took the group photo so that we could do a spot the GOM competition (another football analogy if you remember the spot the ball competition). Kathy mentioned that David deserved a special mention for getting to the hash today considering his bike suffered a mechanical failure at the top of Callas Hill and he returned home to get in his car to come along to the hash today. Keith briefed us on the three trails he laid; a short 2 miler, a medium 3 and bit miler and a long 4.6 miler. All trails on the flat around Shrivenham. On! On! was across the road from The Barrington Arms and so we all set off towards the church.

The weather was overcast and a bit chilly, probably ideal if you are a runner, but it did not spoil the views of the countryside around Shrivenham. Some parts of Keith’s trails he laid today followed familiar ground and there were some different areas explored including the old canal and for the first time in a long while we did not meander through the Shrivenham Military College.

Everyone was back at the Barrington Arms by 12:30ish for the après. I thanked Keith for the well marked trails which everyone seemed to appreciate so much so that Greg decided to award the horn to Keith for his endeavours and the bags were retained by Viv and John to be awarded at the next hash.
