Today’s Hash was one of those occasions where everything seemed to work out perfectly.
One of the ideal things about the area around Hook is that it is flat, and apart from the numerous stiles, it’s super country to run through. On top of that, the weather was just right for running; not too hot and the countryside was looking so fresh and green with the May blossom was at its peak.
We entered a bluebell wood and as we followed the path, seemed to be running around for ever in circles, but eventually exited across open fields. On one such field a long path had been mowed through the high grass which made running so much easier. Spring is still with us and we were still able to enjoy the bluebell woods before the summer rushes in.
Brian said there were no hazards apart from crossing the road twice, adding there were no cows or horses. I must report that in the final field returning to the pub, we did encounter a few cows, but when Viv got back to the pub she had to divert from the field as she was threatened by hundreds of aggressive ones. The lady is always right.
John White remarkably ran the whole route without his ankle support; this was an amazing achievement as it was the first time since his accident 18 months ago.
There was a short tête-à-tête between Julie and Simon when Julie offered the horn to Simon because he had worn the shorts, and in response Simon awarded the shorts to Julie. This could carry on in perpetuity for many hashes and no-one else needs to get involved. Looking forward to the next installment.
The après was supported by complimentary deep-fried bread strips and bowls of chips supplied by David. It was very pleasant sitting in the garden of the Bolingbroke, possibly the first Hash of the summer we could be outside.
Keith did the usual thanks to the hare for a thoroughly enjoyable Hash.
The next is at The Greyhound Inn, Letcombe Regis and the Hares will be Viv and John.
A lovely hash and an excellent mag – what else could you ask for.
