Hash 690 – Crown @ Broad Hinton

Our small group of intrepid walkers and 4 runners set off in timely fashion after a quick briefing by Niki. Kathy said my face looked like this 😱 when Keith volunteered me to write my first ever Hash Mag! Due to ground conditions, the long trail was twice round the short with an extra loop added in – covering part of the short trail. Viv ran in wellies!!!

We were expecting very muddy conditions, maybe up to ankle deep in water! And a biting wind. The hares had ventured out earlier needing wellies.

As the trail was to pass through a farm yard where cows wandered, flour could not be used, what might the farmer think it was? So, in the absence of flour, Brian led us through that part giving very clear directions about our return route. Thankfully the cows were all safely behind fencing.

The route was clearly marked, plenty of dots on the right, arrows, circles and a T at one point. Several false trails to check out as well, meaning team work came into play. Initially it was quite dry and easy going underfoot. I even commented to that effect. BUT I spoke too soon as sure enough we came upon mud, ruts full of water and narrow pathways through.

We kept together as a group of walkers chatting as ever, and the runners soon came up behind us on their second lap!

We were greeted at the pub by Kathy, Annie and Mike who had come for the meal and avoided the mud!

In the absence of our GOM, Keith gave the vote of thanks to Niki and Brian. The bangs were nowhere to be seen and the horn is to make an appearance at the next hash having been left in someone’s car. The après was as lively and fun as ever. The meal delicious I have it on good authority – Kathy of course!

Thanks to Niki and Brian for laying the trail, Keith for being GOM including taking the group photo and David for the roast potatoes!
